TEIAS plans two new 2 GW transmission lines near Istanbul (Turkey)

The Turkish electricity power transmission corporation TEIAS has awarded a €140m contract to Prysmian for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of two high-voltage (2 GW) submarine power cable links in the region of Istanbul (western Turkey), one between the European and Asian parts, the other across the Izmit Gulf on the Asian part.

The first project, named Dardanelles III, is a 2 GW double circuit high-voltage submarine power cable link across the Dardanelles strait between Europe and Asia with a length of 4.2 km. It will be the third submarine transmission line across the Dardanelles strait. The second project, Izmit Gulf Crossing, consists of a 2 GW double circuit high-voltage submarine power cable link that will be installed nearby the Osman Gazi Bridge, in the Izmit Gulf with a length of 14 km. Each power link includes two HVAC (High Voltage Alternating Current) 400 kV single-core cables. Both are expected to be completed by 2023.
