Tecpetrol bids for US$4bn gas pipeline project in Peru

Argentine energy company Tecpetrol will take part to a consortium including Odebrecht (Brazil) to bid for a major gas pipeline project in Peru. The Gasoducto Sur Peruano will stretch over 1,000 km and will deliver gas from the Camisea gas field in the Andean region to thermal power plants on the Pacific Coast. The project, part of a modernisation plan for energy infrastructures, will require an investment of about US$4bn. The tender was expected to be held in October 2013 but was delayed several times; it is now expected on 30 June 2014.

Moreover, Tecpetrol has announced the sale of its 23.6% interest in Transportadora de Gas del Perú (TGP), the company operating the existing gas pipeline from Camisea to the coast, for US$650m. The buyer is the Canadian company Carmen Corporation, a subsidiary of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, which bought a 10.4% stake in the TGP in January 2014.
