Technip Energies secures 16 Mt/year LNG contract from QatarEnergy

Technip Energies, under a joint venture with Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) and Gulf Asia Contracting (GAC), has been awarded a major Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) contract by QatarEnergy for the onshore LNG facilities of the North Field West (NFW) project (Technip press release, 26/02/2026).

This award covers the delivery of 2 mega trains, each with a capacity of 8 Mt/year of LNG, as a replication of the 2 trains under construction by Technip Energies and CCC for the North Field South (NFS) project, according to the statement.

This expansion project will produce approximately 16 Mt/year of LNG, and together with North Field East (NFE) and North Field South projects, will double Qatar’s total LNG export capacity from 77 Mt/year to 142 Mt/year. Additionally, the NFW project will capture and sequestrate an additional 1.1 Mt/year of CO2.

The North Field, along with the extended South Pars field on the Iranian side of the Persian Gulf, is the world's largest non-associated natural gas field.

Qatar’s LNG capacity has increased rapidly since its first LNG train in 1996 (4.3 bcm/year). Capacity more than doubled between 2008 and 2011, when a total of 6 mega-trains of 10.5 bcm/year each were commissioned, reaching 104 bcm/year (77 Mt/year). Qatar moved from the world’s first largest LNG producer until 2020 to the third rank behind the US and Australia in 2024 (Enerdata Global Energy Research).
