Tata Power commissions a 450 MW solar plant in Rajasthan (India)

The Indian renewable company Tata Power Solar has commissioned a 450 MW solar plant for Brookfield Renewable India in Rajasthan (western India). The 800,000 modules installation was completed within 7 months and is expected to produce over 800 GWh/year of electricity.

Tata Power announced in 2021 that it plans to reach 15 GW of renewable capacity by 2025 and 25 GW by 2030. The company has a domestic capacity of 13.7 GW (end-2021), including 4.9 GW of renewables (including hydro). Tata Power plans to raise the share of renewables in its power mix to 50-60% by 2025 through its subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy.

As for India, solar accounts for 12% of its installed capacity, with 49.3 GW (end-2021). Since 2016, India has commissioned more than 40 GW of solar projects, including a record 11.9 GW in 2021. The country aims to develop 175 GW of renewable power capacity by 2022, including 100 GW of solar.
