TAQA selects Siemens Energy's turbines for 2.6 GW Taweelah C CCGT project (UAE)

Siemens Energy has been selected to supply advanced gas and steam turbine technology for the 2.6 GW Taweelah C CCGT power project in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (Siemens Energy press release, 16/06/2026). According to the company, the scope of supply includes three SGT5-9000HL gas turbines, two SST5-5000 steam turbines, five SGen5-3000W and SGen5-2000P generators, and auxiliary systems for the project. 

The independent power producer (IPP) project, which will be located at the Al-Taweelah power and desalination complex, is being developed by the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) and an international consortium of Al-Jomaih Energy & Water Company (Saudi Arabia) and Sembcorp Industries (Singapore) has been selected to develop the project. China Energy Engineering Group Corporation will serve as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor, with commissioning expected in late 2028, and the electricity generated will be sold to the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC).

Taweelah C is part of state offtaker EWEC wider programme to support the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative and the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy’s Clean Energy Strategic Target 2035.
