TAQA plans to develop 1 GW of renewables by 2030 in Morocco

TAQA, the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (United Arab Emirates), plans to invest US$1.6bn in Morocco by 2030, with the objective to deploy around 1 GW of renewables, which will help reduce its carbon footprint by 25%. Two renewable projects with a total capacity of 200 MW are expected to be initiated in 2023. The company, which owns and operates 100 MW of wind in the north, is currently planning to develop 600 MW of projects in the south. In addition, TAQA is searching new areas to build a further 200 MW of wind.

In 2022, Morocco awarded five sites that have the potential to host 96 MW of solar capacity to TAQA as part of the national solar programme Noor PV II. In addition, the company owns and operates a 2 GW coal-fired plant in the country.
