The Australian gas company Tamboran Resources has announced agreements to progress its Beetaloo gas basin development located in Australia’s Northern Territory. The firm has signed non-binding Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with BP and Shell to supply 2.2 Mt/year of LNG each from the Northern Territory LNG (NTLNG) export project over a 20-year period.
In addition, Tamboran has announced that the Australian pipeline operator APA has been selected as its preferred partner for a proposed pipeline, which will connect its planned Beetaloo pilot plant at Shenandoah South with APA's Amadeus gas pipeline. APA will invest AUD10m (US$6.7m) on preliminary studies over the coming year.
Earlier in June 2023, Tamboran Resources secured exclusivity over a 170-hectare land to be used for the proposed NTLNG project. The site is planned to host a liquefaction plant with an initial capacity of 6.6 Mt/year, with potential for expansion. Tamboran aims to achieve first LNG production by 2030, contributing to the gas markets in the Northern Territory and East Coast of Australia. The company is also conducting FEED studies for a 100 mcf/d (10 bcm/year) domestic pilot development.
