The Syrian Oil Company has started implementing a project with Saudi energy services firm ADES to develop and operate several gas fields in the central province of Homs (Syria), as part of efforts to boost domestic gas production and strengthen the country’s energy sector (Syrian Arab News Agency press release, 03/07/2026).
The project is expected to raise output from the gas fields by 25% within the first six months and by 50% by mid-next year, bringing production to around 4 mcm/day (1.5 bcm/year), with the aim of supporting the power generation sector.
This initiative is the latest in a series of Gulf-backed investments targeting the rebuilding of Syria’s energy sector. Syria is seeking to attract foreign investment for reconstruction following the lifting of Western sanctions and the end of the war.
