The Syrian Electricity Company (SEC), the country's state-owned power utility, has signed three agreements with Al-Harafi Construction (Saudi Arabia) to develop solar projects with a combined capacity of 760 MW and battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a total storage capacity of 1,077 MWh in the Rif Dimashq Governorate in southwestern Syria, according to Syrian Arab News Agency (05/08/2026).
In February 2026, Al-Harafi Construction signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Public Establishment for Transmission and Distribution of Electricity (PETDE), which was replaced by SEC in April 2026, to develop a 210 MW solar power project supported by a BESS with a storage capacity of 827 MWh.
Syria has an installed capacity of 9.6 GW at end-2024, with 4.2 GW of gas, 3.8 GW of oil and 1.5 GW of hydro, according to Enerdata’s Global Energy & CO2 data. The country has less than 100 MW of solar capacity.
