Switzerland cuts tariffs for small hydropower and solar PV

The Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) has announced a reduction in the RPC ("Rétribution à prix coûtant") system for solar PV and small-hydropower plants as of 1 January 2017.

The retribution rate for PV power plants will be cut twice in 2017, on 1st April and 1st October, reducing by 10% to 28% (depending on the size of the plant) compared to 2016 levels. As of 1 October 2017, the retribution rate will be CHF 13.7c/kWh for new installations and isolated installations. For solar PV plants up to 30 kW, tariffs will be cut on 1 April 2017 and 1 April 2018. For new installations and isolated installations, the basic retribution will remain unchanged and the capacity-related retribution will be cut twice by a total CHF 100/kW. For integrated PV installations, the basic retribution will be cut by CHF 200 and the capacity-related retribution will be cut twice by a total CHF 150/kW.

Where small-hydropower is concerned, the basic retribution will be cut by 4% to 18%, depending on the capacity, for power plants commissioned after the decree (those having already secured approval will not be concerned).
