Swedish OX2 buys 1 GW onshore wind power project in Australia

The Swedish energy group OX2 has acquired a 1 GW onshore wind project in Perth, Western Australia. The project is in its early stage of development, and should include a 100 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) (indicative size) that would be developed in advance of the 1 GW wind project. The original project developers are expected to work closely with OX2 to manage the approval process, as part of the acquisition agreement. The project represents an advancement in OX2’s strategy to diversify and strengthen its renewable energy portfolio in the region, since the project is the company’s first onshore wind plant in Australia.

OX2 entered the Australian market in 2023 through the acquisition of solar energy developer ESCO Pacific. OX2’s project development portfolio in Australia consists of solar projects of about 1 GW and energy storage projects of 230 MW in the states of Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland.
