Sunterra raises its BESS capacity at three Bulgarian solar parks to 397 MW/1.3 GWh

Sunterra RE has received operating permits and commissioned the second phase of battery energy storage systems (BESS) totalling 397 MW/1.3 GWh at three Bulgarian solar parks, namely the 201 MW Galabovo PV plant, the 208 MW Kaloyanovo PV plant, and the 115 MW Karlovo PV plant (Sunterra RE press release, 01/06/2026).

The capacity of the 75 MW/150 MWh Galabovo BESS was then raised to 150 MW/450 MWh, that of 45 MW/94 MWh Kaloyanovo BESS to 150 MW/506 MWh, and that of 34 MW/ 68 MWh Karlovo BESS to 97 MW/320 MWh. The projects use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries and can provide up to 4 hours of energy storage at nearly 90% efficiency.
