The German renewable energy development and construction company SUNOTEC has acquired full ownership over SIA DSE Lazas Solar from Danish Sun Energy to develop a new 400 MW solar PV power plant with a 600 MWh BESS in Latvia. The Lazas solar park project is located in the Dienvidkurzeme Municipality and it will be developed in phases, with the first stage expected to start construction by the end of 2025. The €245m project involves the construction of a 330 kV substation with a connection to a 330 kV high-voltage line on the Latvian national grid. The project is scheduled to be fully commissioned in March 2027.
In 2023, solar PV accounted for about 10% of Latvia's installed capacity and less than 4% of its power generation. Latvia aims to reach a share of 57% of renewables in the final energy consumption in 2030, including 66% for heat, and 7% for transport (of which 3.5% are advanced biofuels).
