Sungrow and ID Energy advance 172 MW/726 MWh of BESS projects in Spain

Sungrow Renewables and ID Energy Group have advanced three BESS projects with a combined capacity of 172 MW/726 MWh in Castellón, Spain (Demócrata España, 06/07/2026).

ID Energy Group is developing the ALM Julben Solar (61 MW/264 MWh) and ALM Vadux Solar (55 MW/242 MWh) installations, which are undergoing environmental assessment after securing grid access and connection permits in 2024. Located south of the Vall d’Uixó 220 kV substation, the lithium-ion projects should occupy about 20,000 m².

These developments complement Sungrow Renewables’ BESS Cuevas project, sized at 55 MW/220 MWh, which received a favourable environmental impact declaration in 2025 and is progressing towards preliminary construction and development approvals. The three projects are expected to share part of their grid connection infrastructure through a common collector substation linked to the Vall d’Uixó 220 kV node, with BESS Cuevas acting as the central evacuation hub.

The projects are in line with Spain’s 2050 energy storage strategy, which targets 22 GW of storage capacity by 2030 and 30 GW by 2050 (Enerdata’s Global Energy Research).
