The Indian renewable energy company Sterling & Wilson has won a bid for the balance of system (BOS) package for a 1.2 GW solar PV project worth INR21bn (US$254m) and located at Khavda RE Power Park in the Rann of Kutch, in the state of Gujarat (western India). The project, awarded by India’s NTPC, is a BOS package for four blocks of 300 MW each. The aggregate capacity of the project is set at 1.5 GW. The bid value includes operation and maintenance (O&M) for three years, as well as taxes.
Sterling & Wilson has a renewable portfolio of 12.8 GW and manages an operations and maintenance portfolio of around 6 GW. The company has a presence in 25 countries.
At the end of 2021, solar and wind accounted for over 20% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 49 GW and 40 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW and meet 50% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2030.
