Sterling and Wilson wins procurement for 1.25 GW of solar in Gujarat (India)

Indian company Sterling and Wilson Solar has secured an order to deliver balance of system (BOS) services for 1.25 GW of the 1.57 GW Khavda RE solar complex in the Indian state of Gujarat.

The INR22bn (US$275m) contract was placed by India’s NTPC Renewable Energy. Sterling and Wilson was chosen for the job after emerging as the lowest bidder in a competitive selection.

The solar engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm will be in charge of the BOS package for four blocks of the Khavda renewable energy park in the Rann of Kutch area of Gujarat, which is expected to reach a total capacity of 4.75 GW of renewable energy. The scope of work will cover the design, engineering, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of the 1.25 GW solar capacity.

Solar accounts for 12% of India’s installed capacity, with 49.3 GW (2021). Since 2016, India has commissioned on average 7.4 GW/year of solar projects, including a record 11.9 GW in 2021. The country aims to develop 175 GW of renewable power capacity by 2022, including 100 GW of solar.
