The Norwegian companies Statoil and Statkraft have signed a letter of intent that Statoil takes over as operator of the Sheringham Shoal offshore wind park from January 2017. Sheringham Shoal, which was commissioned in 2012 with a generating capacity of 317 MW, is located off the coast of Norfolk (Northeast of London), in the same area of the Dudgeon offshore wind project (402 MW) that Statoil will operate. Statoil and Statkraft each hold a 40% share in Sheringham Shoal, with 20% held by the UK Green Investment Bank.
The agreement also includes Statoil to increase its current 25% share in the Dogger Bank projects (4,800 MW) to 50% through an acquisition of Statkraft’s shares. The final shareholding in Dogger Bank, and the transfer of operatorship for Sheringham Shoal, is pending partner and government approvals.
Statkraft's new strategy established in December 2015 affirmed that the company won't no longer make new investments in offshore wind.
