Statkraft will develop wind and solar projects in Ireland and Brazil

Norway-based power company Statkraft has completed the acquisition of 9 solar power projects in Ireland with a combined capacity of 320 MW from solar developer JBM Sola. These projects are at an advanced stage of development and some of them will take part to the upcoming Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS) auctions. The Norwegian company already has a portfolio of 1.25 GW of onshore wind projects and of 500 MW of offshore wind project in Ireland and plans to invest €1.5bn in the Irish renewable power generation sector.

Earlier in October 2019, the group was awarded 376 MW of wind power contracts in Brazil for its Ventos de Santa Eugenia and Serra de Mangabeira wind projects with a combined capacity of 498 MW. Statkraft will sell around 40% of their power generation to Brazilian distribution companies at an average price of BRL 98/MWh (US$24.4/MWh) for 20 years, starting in 2025. The remaining 60% of the production will be sold in the free market, based on spot prices or corporate PPAs.

Statkraft aims to become a major wind and solar developer, with a target of 2,000 MW of solar and 6,000 MW of wind power capacity by 2025.
