Norwegian energy companies Statkraft and TrønderEnergi and the European investor consortium Nordic Wind Power have decided to create a joint venture to develop a giant wind complex in Central Norway, with a combined capacity of 1,000 MW.
The Fosen Vind project will consist of the the Harbaksfjellet, Roan, Storheia and Kvenndalsfjellet wind parks (around 750 MW) north of the Trondheim fjord, and of the Geitfjellet and Hitra 2 wind farms south of the Trondheim fjord (around 250 MW). Total investment is estimated at €1.1bn and construction is expected to start in the second quarter of 2016. Commissioning is scheduled in 2020 and the project will be one of the largest wind parks in Europe.
Statkraft will have a 52.1% stake in the Fosen Vind DA joint venture, while TrønderEnergi will hold 7.9%; Nordic Wind Power (Credit Suisse Energy Infrastructure Partners and BKW) will hold the remaining 40%, acquired from Agder Energi, TrønderEnergi and NTE, which revived the project with Statkraft in June 2015.
