Statkraft, the main power utility in Norway, generated a total consolidated power generation of 66 TWh in 2016 (against 56.3 TWh in 2015) which is a 17,2% increase. The raise originates mostly from the newly added capacity as the company's capacity increased by 15% compared with 2015.
The company's 2016 pro-rata installed capacity amounts to 19.2 GW (without 774 MW of district heating), which are generated from 372 power plants. 69 % of the installed capacity is in Norway, which accounts for 13.9 GW alone, whereas Germany accounts for 2.7 GW. Hydropower represents the biggest share of this figure with 15.7 GW capacity produced mostly in Norway and Sweden. Gas power has the second rank with 2.6 GW generated mostly in Germany.
In 2016, the company invested a total of NOK 5.7bn (€640m) and two thirds were related to investments in new generating capacity. Statkraft recorded a profit before tax of NOK 5.2 bn (€580m) against a loss of NOK 0.8bn in 2015, mainly because of the increased Norwegian hydropower production and a higher contribution from the international subsidiaries.
