Statkraft inaugurates 519 MW wind complex in Bahia (Brazil)

The Norwegian state-owned energy company Statkraft has inaugurated the Ventos de Santa Eugênia Wind Complex located in Uibaí and Ibipeba, in the Bahia state (Eastern Brazil). The wind complex features 14 wind plants with a total of 91 turbines of 5.7 MW each installed through 489 hectares, and it is expected to generate around 2.3 TWh/year, enough to supply 1.2 million Brazilian homes of clean energy. The project constitutes Statkraft’s largest wind complex outside of Europe, and one of Brazil’s first hybrid projects with a planned solar plant and battery storage that will sum up to a total combined capacity of 682 MW once it becomes fully operational in 2025. The construction of the solar plant is scheduled for later in 2024.

Statkraft expects to achieve a Brazilian portfolio of 2.2 GW of generation capacity in hydropower, solar, wind and battery technologies in 2024.
