The British utility Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has unveiled its preliminary full year 2017-2018 results and plans to invest £6bn (€6.9bn) over the next five years. Most of which (70%) will be dedicated to support the development of regulated power networks and renewable energies. In particular, £350m (€401m) will be dedicated to the 840 MW gas-fired power plant at Keadby in Lincolnshire (United Kingdom).
SSE currently has a capacity of 11.2 GW (March 2018), including 5.2 GW of gas- and oil-fired plants, 2 GW of coal and 3.8 GW of renewables (of which 1.4 GW of hydro and 2.3 GW of wind power). The group generated 33.1 TWh (+26%), of which 23.7 TWh from thermal plants (+29%) and 9.4 TWh from renewables (+18%). SSE aims to reach over 4.2 GW of renewable capacity and to raise its renewable generation to 12 TWh/year by 2020. Besides, the company also committed to reducing its carbon intensity by 50% by 2020.
SSE produced 9 mboe of gas (-11%) and 740 kboe of liquids (-30%), primarily due to the fields' natural decline.
