The British energy company SSE has released its 2021-2022 results. In 2021, its installed renewable capacity reached 3.9 GW and its renewable power generation declined by 7% to 9.5 TWh in 2021. In addition, the group distributed 37.6 TWh during the year (+4.1%).
SSE plans to invest more than £24bn (€28bn) in Great Britain’s electricity infrastructure by 2030, as part of its “Net Zero Acceleration Programme” (NZAP) set to boost the UK’s clean energy ambitions. In November 2021, SSE had unveiled the first details of NZAP, which it described as a “£12.5bn (€14.6bn) five-year investment plan to 2026”. SSE’s updated strategy to 2030, published in the FY 2022 annual report, notably aims to increase renewable power generation fivefold to about 50 TWh (compared to 2019 levels). The company also plans to enable at least 20 GW of renewable installed capacity by 2030. SSE has also made a commitment to cut its carbon intensity by 80% in 2030 (compared to 2017 levels) to reach 61gCO2/kWh.
