SSE Renewables, Marubeni and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) have created a joint venture to bid together for the 10 GW ScotWind seabed leasing process managed by Crown Estate Scotland (United Kingdom). SSE is already involved in the construction of the 1.1 GW Seagreen offshore wind project and of the 3.6 GW Dogger Bank offshore wind project, both located in Scotland.
In June 2020, Crown Estate Scotland initiated a new round of offshore wind leasing in Scotland, targeting up to 10 GW. The ScotWind leasing round intends to attract £8bn (€8.9bn) of new investments. Developers can register interest in obtaining an option agreement with Crown Estate Scotland, which could lead to leases to build offshore wind projects. Applications are requested to have an intended capacity of at least 100 MW. In October 2020, the Scottish government raised its target for offshore wind power capacity by 2030 from 8 GW to 11 GW. Scotland has currently 5.6 GW of consented offshore capacity, of which 1 GW is operational.
