The UK’s SSE Renewables and France’s TotalEnergies have generated first power from the 1.1 GW Seagreen offshore wind farm off the coast of Angus, eastern Scotland, United Kingdom. The first Vestas 10 MW turbine, out of a total of 114, was commissioned and grid connected on 22 August 2022.
The Seagreen wind farm is expected to be operational in the first half of 2023. When fully operational, the site will produce around 5 TWh/year of renewable electricity, enough to power the equivalent of 1.6m households.
As well as being Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm, the £3bn (€3.5bn) project will also be the world’s deepest fixed bottom wind farm that is operational to date, with its deepest foundation due to be installed at 59 meters below sea level in December 2022.
