SRP and Aypa Power launch 250 MW / 1 GWh BESS project in Arizona (US)

Salt River Project (SRP) and Aypa Power have announced that the Pediment Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), a 250 MW / 1,000 MWh facility located in the Elliot Road Technology Corridor in Mesa, Arizona, is now fully operational and supplying electricity to customers (SRP press release, 16/06/2026).

The Pediment project, which was acquired by Aypa Power from US battery storage developer Eolian in 2024, represents the first of two projects contracted with SRP and constitutes an important addition to the utility’s expanding energy storage portfolio. Alongside Pediment, Aypa Power is also developing another 250 MW / 2,000 MWh lithium-ion battery energy storage system under contract with SRP, which is scheduled to come online in December 2028.

“Pediment enters service as SRP prepares for sustained load growth driven by population increases and expanding commercial demand. The utility expects to more than double its system capacity over the next decade, with battery storage playing an increasingly central role in meeting peak demand and maintaining system reliability”, said the press release.
