SPNEC acquires 2,000 hectares to build a 3.5 GW solar project (Philippines)

The renewable energy company Solar Philippines New Energy Corporation has acquired 2,000 hectares (20 km2) of land to develop a 3.5 GW solar project in the Nueva Ecija and Bulacan municipalities, near Manila, on the island of Luzon (northern Philippines).

The planned solar project, which will combine 3.5 GW of solar and 4.5 GW of battery capacity, will be led by Terra Solar Philippines, a PHP200bn (US$3.5bn) joint venture between Prime Infrastructure Capital and Solar Philippines. Once completed, the project will be the largest solar park connected to the Philippine grid.

Solar Philippines plans to invest PHP10bn (US$174m) for the development of 10 GW of solar projects in the country. At the end of 2021, solar represented 5% of the Philippines’ installed capacity with 1.3 GW and just above 1% of its power generation with 1.4 TWh.
