Spain authorises start-up of the 8 bcm/year El Musel LNG terminal

The Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge has authorised the start-up of the El Musel LNG terminal in Gijón, which should occur in July 2023. The Gijón terminal, operated by Enagas, has the capacity to import up to 8 bcm/year of LNG per year to Europe's energy supply security. It has two tanks with a storage capacity of 150,000 cubic meters of LNG, and can accommodate vessels ranging from 50,000 to 266,000 cubic meters. The terminal also features two truck loading bays and has a maximum emission capacity of 800,000 Nm3/h.

The plant previously obtained approval for the special economic regime for its logistical use from the National Commission on Markets and Competition. The only pending step for its commissioning is the Certificate of Commissioning by the Industry and Energy Department of the Government Delegation. Enagás and Reganosa signed an agreement in February, through which Enagás acquired Reganosa's 130 km gas pipeline network and Reganosa obtained a 25% stake in the El Musel terminal.
