The Council of Ministers has approved a Royal Decree to allocate and distribute €794m in direct aid to the seven Spanish projects of renewable hydrogen clusters and industrial technologies, with an overall electrolysis capacity of 652 MW.
Five projects include the construction of high-capacity electrolysers (of at least 100 MW) in industrial areas (ports or industrial complexes) in Andalusia, Asturias, Castilla-La Mancha, the Basque Country and Murcia. They are part of the IPCEI Hy2Use Technology Field 1 line, aimed at promoting renewable hydrogen. In addition, two Spanish proposals of the IPCEI Hy2Use will be deployed in Aragon, under the Technology Field 2 line, aimed at facilitating the technological replacement of fossil energies in industrial sectors; they will focus on implementing two renewable hydrogen generation projects for use in the manufacture of fertilizers and other chemical compounds.
According to Spain’ Hydrogen Roadmap, the country aims to install 4 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030 to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
