Southern Energy FLNG export project partners reach FID (Argentina)

Harbour Energy and its partners – Pan American Energy, YPF, Pampa Energia and Golar LNG – have taken Final Investment Decision (FID) for the Southern Energy floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) export project in Argentina. The project plans to deploy two of Golar LNG’s FLNG vessels (the Hilli Episeyo and MK II) off the coast of the Rio Negro province to process and export a capacity of 6 Mt/year of LNG. Production is expected to start by the end of 2027 (commissioning of Hili Episeyo) and to reach full operation in late 2028 (commissioning of MK II).

The Southern Energy has been granted investment incentives including dollarisation of revenues after three years of production under Argentina’s recently enacted RIGI legislation (Régimen de Incentivo para Grandes Inversiones). The project is owned by Pan American Energy (30%), YPF (25%), Pampa Energia (20%), Harbour Energy (15%) and Golar LNG (10%)

Argentina does not currently produce or export LNG, however country plans to liquefy and export natural gas from the Vaca Muerta field’s large shale gas resources (around 8,700 bcm and oil reserves at 16.2 Gbl).
