SoutH2 Corridor project partners sign MoU on green hydrogen production in Algeria

VNG (Germany), Snam (Italy), SeaCorridor (Italy) and Verbund Green Hydrogen (Austria) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Algerian energy groups Sonatrach and Sonelgaz to jointly carry out the necessary viability and profitability studies to produce green hydrogen in Algeria. Under the terms of the MoU, green hydrogen produced from renewable sources in Algeria would be exported to the European market via the proposed SoutH2 Corridor hydrogen pipeline project.

The SoutH2 Corridor is one of the five large-scale pipelines for hydrogen imports that are expected to ease the import of 10 Mt of renewable hydrogen in the European Union by 2030. Already chosen as a Project of Common Interest (PCI), it aims to ensure hydrogen imports from North Africa through southern Italy, where it would be connected to important hydrogen demand clusters in Italy, Austria and Germany.
