As part of discussions with Zambia’s Minister of Energy, the Indian solar project developer Soleos Energy and its Zambian partner, Octane Investment Limited, have expressed strong interest in developing 1 GW of solar power in Zambia by 2030, with ambitions to scale up to 5 GW in the longer term, according to a statement from the Zambian Ministry of Energy. The Central Province has been identified as a priority area for the planned investments.
Zambia is intensifying efforts to accelerate renewable energy deployment, with more than 30 solar power plants expected to be completed by 2027. These projects aim to mitigate the country’s electricity deficit and support the long-term objective of supplying power for both domestic consumption and export markets.
Soleos is already active in Africa, undertaking regional initiatives including a 250 MW solar project in Lubumbashi, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
