The Italian gas infrastructure company Snam has published it 2013-2016 business plan. The overall firm's investment plan in the 2013-2016 period for the domestic market amounts to €6.2bn, of which €1.3bn spent in 2013, and is aimed at further developing the gas infrastructure system in Italy in the view of greater interconnection with the European networks, increasing diversification of supply and flexibility of the system. The 2013-2016 plan envisages an extension of the gas network of about 1,000 km (+3% versus the over 32,200 km as at the end of 2012) and an increase in the installed capacity of the compression stations of around 150 MW (+17% versus the 864 MW at the end of 2012). The investments in the storage business are expected to deliver a roughly 25% increase in modulation capacity (from 10.7 bcm in 2012 to around 13.5 bcm by 2016) and a 14% increase in peak capacity in the period. The projects planned for the 2013-2016 period will allow the company to grow the number of meters, which by 2016 is expected to reach 6.7 million units, an increase of 14% over the 5.9 million units at the end of 2012.
