According to the French Commissariat général au développement durable, 879 MW of wind and solar capacity were installed in the first six months of 2018, which is 28% less than during the same period of 2017. However, 479 MW of solar projects were connected to the French grid which is 57% more than during the same period of 2017 (300 MW). 400 MW of wind power projects were connected to the French, which is 28% less than during the first semester of 2017 (558 MW).
As of June 2018, the total French wind capacity stood at 13,998 MW (13,598 MW in December 2017) while the solar capacity reached 8,533 MW (8,061 MW in December 2017). Wind power production stood at 14.2 TWh in the first semester of 2018, covering 5.7% of the French electricity consumption while solar power production reached 4.6 TWh, representing 1.9% of the domestic power consumption.
As of June 2018, the total cumulated capacity of French biogas power plants stood at 442 MW and 13 MW were added to the grid in the first semester of 2018. Biogas-fired power production reached 1 TWh over the same time period, which accounts for 0.4% (+10% compared with first semester of 2017) of the domestic power consumption
