SJVN will develop 1 GW of floating solar projects in Assam (India)

SJVN Green Energy, a subsidiary of the Indian state-owned hydropower company SJVN, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Assam Power Distribution Company (APDCL) to develop 1 GW of floating solar projects in the state of Assam (northeastern India). The projects will be developed through a joint venture between the two companies. SJVN will invest INR60bn (US$740m) into the initiative. The projects are expected to produce about 2.2 TWh in the first year after installation. They will be built across several wetlands totalling more than 4,500 hectares.

In June 2022, the Indian coal and power company Neyveli Lignite Corporation and the government of Assam also signed a Memorandum of Understanding in order to set up a joint venture company to produce at least 1 GW of solar power on the state’s territory.
