The Chinese hydrocarbon company Sinopec has announced the start of operations at its 6 Mt/year Huaying LNG regasification terminal, located in the province of Guangdong, southern China. The announcement was made after a first cargo from Australia delivered 72 kt of LNG at the terminal, marking the official start of operations for the project.
The terminal, a joint venture between Sinopec and Huaying Investment Holding Group, features three LNG storage tanks with capacity of 200,000 m3 each and one LNG carrier berth with a 6 Mt/year receiving and transfer capacity. A second phase of the project is planned, which would double the terminal’s capacity to 12 Mt/year.
Earlier in September 2024, the 4 Mt/year Huizhou LNG import terminal, also located in Guangdong, received its commissioning cargo as well. As of end-2023, China had an LNG regasification capacity of nearly 141 Mt/year (190 bcm/year). The country imported over 73 Mt (nearly 100 bcm) of LNG in 2023.
