Singapore's Sunseap plans a 7 GW solar project in Riau Islands (Indonesia)

Sunseap Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore and develop solar power systems with combined capacity of 7 GW around the Riau islands (Indonesia), including a previously announced 2.2 GW floating solar PV in Duriangkang, Batam. Some of the MoU parties include PT Mustika Combol Indah, PT Agung Sedayu, Sumitomo Corporation, Samsung C&T Corporation, Oriens Asset Management, ESS Inc and Durapower Group. Coupled with multiple energy storage systems totalling more than 12 GWh, the project aims to provide 1 GW of non-intermittent low-carbon clean energy for Singapore and Indonesia.

In July 2021, Sunseap Group signed an MoU with Badan Pengusahaan Batam (BP Batam) to build a 2.2 GW floating solar-plus-storage plant combined with a storage capacity of 4,000 MWh on the Duriangkang reservoir on the Indonesian island of Batam. The project was expected to generate 2.6 TWh/year of electricity, to be consumed on Batam Island and exported to Singapore 50 km away using a subsea cable. Construction is slated to start in 2022 and should be completed in 2024.
