Singapore plans to import 4 GW of renewable electricity by 2035

Singapore plans to issue two requests for proposals (RFP) to import electricity from Malaysia and Indonesia, as part of plans to import up to 4 GW of low-carbon electricity by 2035. The first proposal will be released in November 2021, while the second is expected in the second quarter of 2022. YTL PowerSeraya has won Singapore's 2-year trial project to import 100 MW of electricity from Malaysia through existing interconnection lines as of early 2022. In addition, the country's Energy Market Authority (EMA) has approved a pilot project to import 100 MW of solar power from Indonesia to Singapore. PacificLight Power (PLP), Medco Power Indonesia, and Gallant Venture are developing a solar project in Bulan Island, 2.5 km south-west of Batam Island, Indonesia, that will supply power to Singapore; the 670 MWp will provide 100 MW of non-intermittent power to Singapore through a HVAC subsea connection.

Singapore's installed capacity amounts to 13.7 GW (end of 2019), of which 77% is gas-fired and 19% oil-fired.
