Sembcorp Utilities, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, has secured conditional approval from Singapore's Energy Market Authority (EMA) for a 300 MW renewable electricity import project from Peninsular Malaysia (Sembcorp, 07/08/2026).
The project will be developed by Sembcorp in partnership with state-owned entity KPRJ Environment Sdn. Bhd. (subsidiary of Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor Sdn. Bhd.) and Qua Energy. It consists of a 2.2 GWp floating solar facility and up to 4.3 GWh of battery storage at Linggiu Reservoir in Johor, Malaysia, with operations expected to start in 2029, strengthening cross-border power trade between Malaysia and Singapore.
Singapore aims to import around 6 GW of low-carbon electricity by 2035, equivalent to about one-third of its projected power demand.
