Singapore and Vietnam will develop wind projects for export to Singapore

Singapore’s Sembcorp Utilities and Vietnam’s PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) have signed a joint development agreement (JDA) to develop offshore wind projects in Vietnam, with a total capacity of 2.3 GW, whose generated electricity will be exported to the city-state via subsea high voltage alternative current (HVAC) cables.

This agreement follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two parties at the end of October 2022 to research the feasibility of the project. The collaboration marks the first renewable energy cooperation between the two companies and aims to strengthen the relationship between the governments of Vietnam and Singapore.

The two countries have collaborated in the past to develop renewable projects. In 2019, Sunseap International (Singapore) and InfraCo Asia commissioned a 168 MW solar PV project in the Ninh Thuan province, on the south-central coast of Vietnam.
