SIERDC will build a 440 MW solar power plant in northern Philippines

The Philippine energy company San Ignacio Energy Resources Development Corporation (SIERDC), a subsidiary of Nextnorth Energy Group, will develop a 440 MW solar power project near the city of Ilagan, in the province of Isabela (northern Philippines).

The Isabela Solar Power Project, which will require an estimated investment of PHP18bn (US$330m), is expected to produce around 700 GWh/year of electricity and supply around 1 million Philippine households. Construction is scheduled to start in 2024 while commissioning is expected for 2025. In December 2022, SIERDC partnered with Total Eren, a subsidiary of the French group TotalEnergies, to develop the project.

At the end of 2020, solar represented 4% of the Philippines’ installed capacity with 1 GW and just 1% of its power generation with 1 TWh. The country currently has more than 1.6 GW of solar projects under construction and nearly 6 GW under development.
