Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has received a conditional order from Ørsted and Eversource for 1,714 MW of offshore wind turbines to be installed in the United States. Siemens will supply its SG 8.0-167 DD turbines rated 8 MW to three offshore wind projects in northeastern United States: the 880 MW Sunrise Wind project, the 704 MW Revolution Wind project and the 130 MW South Fork project.
The 880 MW Sunrise Wind project, which will include 110 turbines, has just been awarded by the New York state to the Ørsted - Eversource consortium in a 1.7 GW offshore wind auction. It will be located about 50 km off Montauk Point in New York and will be commissioned in 2024. The 704 MW Revolution Wind project will include 88 turbines off the coast of Rhode Island and will be operational by 2023, when it will deliver power to Rhode Island and Connecticut. Siemens will supply 16 turbines for the 130 MW South Fork project off Long Island, New York, which will be operational by the end of 2022 and will deliver power to the Long Island Power Authority.
