ScottishPower, the UK subsidiary of the Spanish energy group Iberdrola, has awarded a GBP1bn (€1.2bn) turbine supply contract to Siemens Gamesa to supply its 960 MW East Anglia 2 offshore wind project, which is being developed off Suffolk, England (United Kingdom). Under the contract, Siemens Gamesa will supply 64 of its SG 14-236 DD offshore wind turbines, which have a rotor diameter of 236 metres and an individual capacity of 15 MW. The project is expected to require a total investment of GBP4bn (€4.8bn).
The contract award follows ScottishPower’s announcement that it will double its investment in the UK, increasing it to GBP24bn (€29bn) by 2028. In 2023, ScottishPower had also selected Siemens Gamesa to supply turbines for its 1.4 GW East Anglia 3, located off England’s Norfolk coast.
The UK aims to reach up to 50 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030, up from 14.7 GW at the end of 2023.
