Siemens Gamesa will supply turbines for a 1.4 GW wind project in the UK

ScottishPower Renewables, a subsidiary of the Spanish energy group Iberdrola, has placed an order with Germany’s Siemens Gamesa for the supply of 95 SG14-236 DD wind turbines for its 1.4 GW East Anglia 3 offshore wind project, located 69 km off the coast of Norfolk (eastern United Kingdom). The companies have also signed a service contract for an initial period of eight years. In 2021, ScottishPower Renewables had already selected Siemens Gamesa as the preferred bidder to supply and install offshore wind turbines for the East Anglia hub project.

East Anglia 3 is the second of four projects planned in the ScottishPower Renewables 2.9 GW East Anglia Hub development in the North Sea and the project will cover an area of approximately 305 km². Once completed, it will provide clean electricity to 1.3 million UK households. The installation of the turbines is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026 and to be completed by the end of 2026.

As of end-2021, offshore wind represented nearly 13% of the UK’s installed capacity with 12.7 GW and 12% of its power generation with 35.5 TWh. The UK plans to reach 50 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
