Siemens Gamesa will supply turbines for a 1 GW offshore wind project (Taiwan)

Siemens Gamesa and Hai Long Offshore Wind Project have signed a turbine supply agreement and a service and availability agreement for the 1,044 MW Hai Long offshore wind project, located off the coast of Changhua county, western Taiwan.

Siemens Gamesa will provide 73 SG 14-222 DD turbines for the Hai Long 2A (300 MW), Hai Long 2B (232 MW), and Hai Long 3 (512 MW) wind parks. The agreement also includes a 15-year service contract, with an option to extend it to 20 years. In addition, Siemens Gamesa will provide offshore logistics and operations and maintenance service facilities for all three parks.

The project is owned by Canada’s Northland Power, Taiwan’s Yushan Energy and Japan’s Mitsui through their Hai Long Offshore Wind Project joint venture. The project is expected to be fully operationnal in 2025-2026.

At the end of 2021, offshore wind represented less than 1% of Taiwan’s installed capacity (with 237 MW), as the island only installed its first offshore wind turbine in 2017.
