Siemens Gamesa installs first turbine at a 920 MW offshore wind project in Taiwan

Siemens Gamesa has installed the first turbine at the 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind parks, located off the coast of Taiwan. This is the first global installation of Siemens Gamesa’s SG 14-236 wind turbine, which each have a capacity of 14 MW. The Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind parks are being developed by Denmark’s Ørsted, which started official construction on the power plants in February 2025. The two plants are expected to complete offshore installation by the end of 2025 and to be fully connected to the grid in 2026.

Taiwan aims to reach 5.7 GW of offshore wind capacity by the end of 2025. The offshore wind target was extended to 10 GW between 2026 and 2035 in 2019 and again to 15 GW in 2021. Offshore wind capacity amounted to 2.5 GW at the end of 2024, accounting for 4% of the country’s total installed capacity (64 GW).
