Siemens Energy has announced progress on ESENTIA's project to reinforce the Wahalajara System, an interconnected natural gas pipeline network in Mexico (Siemens Energy press release, 02/03/2026). Siemens Energy will install two 15‑MW turbo‑compression units at the San Juan Compression Station in Chihuahua and at the Aguascalientes Compression Station in Aguascalientes. Construction works have already started and once installed, the units are expected to increase transportation capacity to the system by almost 50%, from 13.4 bcm to 20.7 bcm per year, helping to improve operational efficiency of the natural gas pipeline. The turbines and compressors are scheduled to arrive in 2027.
The Wahalajara System is the largest private natural gas pipeline in Mexico, running for more than 2,000 km from Texas, United States to Mexico’s central‑western region. Its expansion aims to increase system capacity and reliability, which is deemed as essential for Mexico’s industry and power generation.
The announcement is part of the Phase II of the 2026-2028 Expansion Plan, a strategic project between ESENTIA and Siemens Energy to strengthen Mexico’s natural gas transportation infrastructure.
