Shell will deliver the commissioning cargo for Vietnam’s first LNG terminal

PetroVietnam Gas, a subsidiary of the Vietnamese state-owned company PetroVietnam (PVN), has announced that its Thi Vai LNG import and regasification terminal will receive its first cargo from a unit of the UK oil and gas company Shell. Shell Eastern Trading will deliver the terminal’s commissioning cargo during the course of July 2023.

In April 2023, PetroVietnam had issued a tender seeking to buy Vietnam's first LNG cargo (50,000 to 70,000 tonnes) to test run the 1 Mt/year (1.35 bcm/year) terminal, Vietnam’s first, whose construction was completed earlier in May 2023. The Thi Vai LNG facility is located in the southern province of Ba Ria Vung Tau. PetroVietnam Gas intends to expand the capacity of the terminal to 3 to 6 Mt/year.

Simultaneously, PetroVietnam Gas received a certificate from the Ministry of Industry and Trade to become the country's first company eligible to import and export LNG.
