Shell starts oil production at the 100 kboe/d Vito facility off the US

Shell Offshore, a subsidiary of the British oil and gas group Shell, has started production at the Vito floating oil production facility in the US Gulf of Mexico, which will have an estimated peak production of 100 kboe/d.

The Vito development is owned by Shell Offshore Inc. (63.11%, operator) and Equinor (36.89%). Discovered in 2009 and estimated to hold around 290 mboe, the Vito field spans four Outer Continental Shelf blocks and is located about 240 km southeast of New Orleans and 16 km south of the Shell-operated Mars TLP. Shell announced a final investment decision on the project in April 2018.

In 2022, Shell’s total production of oil and gas stood at 921 kboe/d, an 8% decrease compared to 2021. The company’s total proved reserves in 2022 were approximately 9.6 Gboe, with a reserve replacement ratio of 120%.
