Shell-Eneco JV wins 756 MW HKW VI offshore wind project in the Netherlands

Ecowende, the joint venture of Shell and the Dutch power group Eneco, has won the subsidy-free tender to build the 756 MW Hollandse Kust (west) VI offshore wind project in the Netherlands. Partners have already made a final investment decision (FID) on the project. The project, consisting of 54 turbines, will be located approximately 53 km off the coastal town of IJmuiden and is expected to be commissioned in 2026.

The tender for the Hollandse Kust (west) VI and VII offshore wind projects opened in April 2022. In November 2022, Oranje Wind Power II, a subsidiary of Germany's RWE, was awarded the 760 MW Hollandse Kust (west) Site VII. The Oranje Wind Power II project will provide surplus electricity for green hydrogen production on land and to incorporate floating solar panels to allow a more efficient use of ocean space.

The Netherlands, which launched several tenders for its HKW project, targets 21 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 and 70 GW by 2050. Currently, approximately 2.5 GW of offshore wind energy has been fully commissioned and a number of wind parks are under construction or licensed.
